On the afternoon of September 23, Chen Hairong, Party Secretary of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhejiang University, Tong Genshu, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the College, Hu Bin, Vice‑President of Zhejiang University Shanghai Alumni Association and President of its Civil‑Engineering Branch, and their entourage visited the headquarters of OPEN Steel‑Structure Construction Group (hereinafter referred to as “OPEN”) for inspection and guidance.

Chen Ming, Chairman of OPEN, along with core members of the design department, extended a warm reception to the guests. Both sides held in‑depth discussions on discipline development, industrial innovation and industry‑university‑research cooperation.

During the forum, both sides first had cordial conversations regarding the centennial celebration of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhejiang University. They jointly reviewed the college’s educational achievements and disciplinary accumulation over the past century, and exchanged views on the future orientation of university‑enterprise cooperation.

Subsequently, both sides held in‑depth discussions focusing on OPEN’s self‑developed innovative European‑style steel‑frame product and the compilation work for the “Specification for Portal Rigid‑Frame Structures with Corrugated‑Web and Composite‑Flange Concrete‑filled Steel Tubes”. Chairman Chen Ming gave Secretary Chen Hairong and Professor Tong Genshu a detailed briefing on OPEN’s latest progress in product innovation, technical iteration and engineering application, as well as the technical advantages of European‑style steel frames in lightweight design, industrialized production and green construction.

Professor Tong Genshu is a chief editorial contributor to two key national standards: Technical Code for Steel Structures of Light‑Duty Portal‑Rigid‑Frame Buildings and Standard for Design of Steel Structures. He has long devoted himself to theoretical research and engineering practice in the steel‑structure sector and enjoys extensive academic influence within the industry.

Professor Tong Genshu has maintained multi‑year cooperation with OPEN. Both parties have jointly participated in compiling multiple industrial technical specifications and built a solid foundation for industry‑university‑research collaboration. Previously, OPEN completed a series of key structural tests in the laboratories of Zhejiang University. The achievements from their joint R&D have delivered remarkable results, providing solid theoretical support and test verification for the engineering application of many innovative technologies.

Among them, the Technical Specification for Corrugated‑Web Jiajia Wall Structures was developed and compiled under the leadership of Professor Tong Genshu, who served as chief editor. All test‑research work was led by Professor Tong’s team, making it a representative achievement of university‑enterprise joint innovation. At present, OPEN is advancing the preparation of technical specifications for corrugated‑steel‑plate composite structures and corrugated‑web composite‑flange steel structures. Professor Tong Genshu has been invited to act as chief editor to take part in the compilation.
