Joist Wind Column

Joist wind column can undoubtedly save building cost in great scale if it doesn't work as bearing column.

In view of workshop with great height, joist wind column is also economical although it works as bearing column.

Open joist wind column is made up with outer chord, web, and inner chord. Outer chord can take Open M or U shape cold formed steel or other H section profile steel. Inner chord and web are same with Open steel joist. (image one) Refer to introduction of Open steel joist for further information.

The joist wind column has a steel plate at bottom which is anchored with foundation by anchor bolt. Splice plate is used to connect outer chord with main frame beam at top of joist wind column.

Steel splint should be welded on outer chord to connect with girt purlin. The rigidity of joist wind column out plane should be secured by knee brace due to its weakness.

When designing, a suitable height value should be selected for joist wind column. Although increasing joist height can save more steel, it also takes more indoor space. These issues will be considered altogether.

In view of piping on the wall, the web of joist can be used with suitable welding horizontal bar for supporting of the pipe and racket.

Specification of joist wind column is indicated as following:

“KFZ” means abbreviation of Chinese “Kang Feng Zhu” for joist wind column. In view of web type, it is hard to be showed together due to various changes. The web type will be noted separately when issuing drawings
